Cara Valiquette



Cara graduated from Ryerson University with an honours degree in Commerce, then earned a Juris Doctor degree at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law.

Before opening her practice in Muskoka, Cara worked for the Ministry of the Attorney General, Legal Aid Ontario, and as an associate lawyer at a number of private firms, including in M’Chigeeng First Nation. Her practice focuses on civil litigation, real estate, estates, and Indigenous legal issues. Since 2013, she has been managing an Indigenous legal clinic at area Friendship Centres with her colleagues at Falls Law. She also represents minors on behalf of The Office of the Children's Lawyer, Ontario.

Cara sits on the Board of Directors of Muskoka Futures, a Community Futures Development Corporation. She was honoured as Muskoka's Favourite Lawyer in the Bracebridge Examiner's 2014 and 2017 Reader's Choice Awards.


Jason Herbert



Jay grew up in Toronto where he worked in the construction field until he graduated with Honours from York University with a specialist degree in history. He then earned a Juris Doctor degree at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law. Jay was honoured as Muskoka's Favourite Lawyer in the Bracebridge Examiner's 2015 Reader's Choice Awards.

Jay gained valuable experience while working at the Scarborough Crown Attorney's Office. He also spent time working in rural Northern Ontario at a law firm on a First Nation reserve.

Jay has practiced law in Muskoka for almost 10 years with a focus on First Nation communities and clientele. He also practices in civil and criminal law. His criminal defence practice has included acting for defendants accused of homicide and other serious matters.

Jay is a member of Rama First Nation and an elected trustee of the Coldwater Narrows Land Trust. He is also an accredited member of the National Aboriginal Trust Officers Association. When not practicing law, Jay enjoys hiking, going to concerts and playing in the Bracebridge Men's Fastball league.


Mallorie Malone



Mallorie graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and Master of Arts in Political Philosophy, and earned her Juris Doctor degree at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law.

During law school, Mallorie worked as a student caseworker at Downtown Legal Services student clinic, in the Criminal Division. She also assisted self-represented family litigants with Pro Bono Students Canada's Family Law Project. She represented U of T at the International Competition in Mediation Advocacy and at the national Kawaskhimon Aboriginal Moot.

As a law student, Mallorie received the prestigious Donner Fellowship working on indigenous legal issues with the Canadian Civil Liberties Association. Following that, she received the equally prestigious Callwood Fellowship, developing an Indigenous legal aid clinic with Falls Law Group.

Mallorie was honoured as “Favourite Lawyer” in the Bracebridge Examiner's 2016 Reader's Choice Awards. She has practiced law in Muskoka for a number of years with a focus on criminal, family law, civil litigation, construction, and Indigenous legal issues.


Danielle Bertin



Danielle graduated from the University of Victoria with a double major in Political Science and Environmental Studies. She earned her Juris Doctor degree at the University of Windsor, Faculty of Law.

During law school, Danielle volunteered her time to assist unrepresented family litigants with the Pro Bono Students Canada’s Family Law Project. She was also involved with a number of student groups and sat on the executive board of the Indigenous Initiatives, the Windsor OUTLaws, and the Environmental Law Society.

In addition to her volunteer work, Danielle has worked with the Windsor-Essex County Poverty Reduction Strategy on issues of poverty and social policy and for Legal Aid Ontario in the areas of criminal and family law. Her current practice focuses on family law and and First Nations policy development.
